End of an era.

If you haven't heard, the Empress Ballroom is officially closed. Over the next few months it will turn into a new artsy business and will no longer have shows (or very very seldom have shows). Empress could no longer afford to stay open due to a lack of attendance at shows after all of our money was spent on the drop ceiling. It's unfortunate that it had to come to this but it was really impossible to stay open. Between locals not holding up their end of the contracts, a lack of interest (half due to the aforementioned), a huge drop in attendance, and the money spent on the drop ceiling, closing down was a looming fact that all of us here at the ballroom had to face eventually.

Best of luck to everyone looking for shows, bands looking to play, and thanks to those who supported the Ballroom throughout the short time it was open.

I've never been to Empress... but I want to go the Halifax/Paramore show tomorrow night.

Did you have to buy tickets in advance or can you get them at the door? I didnt see any information on the website about ticket sales.

I would seriously like to thank Empress AS WELL AS whoever was in charge of booking the following shows:

Ion Dissonance, Caliban, Sworn Enemy

Nodes of Ravier

Seriously, it means a lot. I finally don't have to travel an hour+ to see bands that I love. It may have taken over a year but it looks like hardcore is back at this venue!

Hey guys:

If you are in a band, and would like to get some of your stuff on the radio, I want you to contact me.

I am a DJ for a new radio station, and I'm looking to compile a show to promote bands, so if you're interested, please email me the following:

Band's Name
Where You're Based Out Of
and a few songs or links to songs that I can download

please email to or

Okay, I've been informed by higher powers at the Empress about a serious problem. For example, tomorrow night there will only be three bands playing. Honestly, who wants to spend $10 to watch three bands? Don't you want a longer, better show? Who really wants to go to the Empress to have the show end at 9:30?

PLEASE respond to this post.

Empress is looking for ideas of bands to play there -- August is a slow month but they're having concerns with not knowing if it's going to pick up in September with the number of bands playing.

Please, add suggestions for bands to play -- not just local bands, but I'm talking about whatever band you would like to see play, or even come again. Please, use your imaginations.

Lauren & Empress

PS -- if any bands are interested in being booked at the Ballroom, please contact myself or tearsthrusunday
